Maryann was a native of Mystic, CT and earned her
Bachelor of Fine Arts at Boston University. She worked in Boston
in a variety of artistic positions including founding her own
full service advertising agency. She returned to Mystic to marry.
She continued her artistic career as Art Director for a publisher,
illustrating childrens education media. She was Director
of Exhibits for the Thames Science Center. Maryann studied sculpture
under Elizabeth Gordon Chandler, founder of The Lyme Academy of
Fine Arts and oil painting under Sarah Stifler Lucas. She founded
Legacy III Studios to capitalize upon her continuing success in
oils.
Maryann was primarily inspired by the American Impressionist
movement. Her work focuses on the ocean, shoreline, to places
and people who share this ever changing world. She utilized a
limited palette to capture the subtle yet sparkling lighting that
pervades the shoreline. Children, boats and coastal New England
scenes normally find their way to her canvases and sculptures.
Maryann was an elected artist of the Mystic Arts
Center and was a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts
and Saint Augustine Art Association. She exhibited in a number
of juried shows and exhibitions. Her work is found in many private
collections. Maryann passed July 2021.
